Use the product calculator below to determine your landscaping requirements. When you are buying MULCH🍃SOIL🍃STONE you need to know about how many cubic yards you want to buy. This easy calculator can be helpful in figuring this out ❗️
An area 10' long and 35' wide = 350 sq. ft.
If you want to apply 3" of mulch to this area (standard depth) you would divide 350 by 100.
This figures your cubic yardage at 3.5.
3 1/2 yards would be sufficient for your order, although rounding up to full yardage is a general rule of thumb.
Please contact us for help if you are unable to calculate your order. We have professional staff available to assist you in figuring out the more complicated areas in your yard.
Organic mulch will breakdown and compost each season and typically needs to be reapplied annually and replaced as needed. You can put mulch down year round in your yard. Typically the first spring application is after the soil begins to warm. Mulch insulates the soil from summer heat and provides a barrier against weeds. A fall application is typically applied just after the first frost to provide your plants protection throughout the winter months.
You want your mulch to decompose slowly and water to permeate the surface. Incorrect applications can stimulate fungus, cause plant damage, attract insects or starve tree roots. When applying mulch you should keep it pulled away from plants and perennials at least 2" to 4" to avoid plant damage . Mulch applications need to be pulled away from the base of your trees to avoid root damage. It should not be piled up to a tree and should be spread out. It should be turned over and freshened up periodically to prevent compacting and allow water and air to permeate the soil.
Colored mulches are made with a vegetable based dye that is safe for your family and yard. Colored mulch should be placed on a tarp and installed as quickly as possible. The dye in the product can lead to surface discoloration. Avoid storing colored mulches on driveways, concrete or paved surfaces. Lightly water in new applications to set the mulch then allow a full day in the sun for colored mulch to dry out in the landscape bed before it cures completely.
